  • Alternate Hotels

You got something against the Hyatt?
That's weird, but you could stay at these places instead:

    The Renaissance.
Even more walkable, but had a higher rate at the time of the block.

    The Double Tree Columbus.

    The Marriott Residence Inn.

    Courtyard by Marriott.

I'm sure these are all lovely hotels. They are just a wee bit further away and either took too long to call me back or never called me back, so I picked the Hyatt.

The Athenaeum website had a good map of downtown, including where all of these hotels are. The interactive parking map you can download is helpful.

  • Why does the invitation say "Adults Only"?

Children have early bedtimes. We hope you will stay up late with us.

However, we really don't want this request to keep you from attending. Please let us know if this is a major problem.

  • MENU

We don't have this completely nailed down yet, but as seen on the RSVP card, there are 3 choices of entree:
    Prime Rib
    Salmon
    Vegetarian

I actually don't even know what the vegetarian dish is yet, but I did request that it not be mushroom based.
Update: Vegetarian meal will be some kind of veggie pasta.

The entree will be the only meat. (No bacon in the green beans or any other surprises in the sides.)

The Athenaeum cannot provide vegan meals, so we will have at least a dozen vegan cupcakes from Pattycake. (Planning on carrot cake without raisins.)

We are having assigned seating for a served meal, so please return your RSVP card. If you don't you will either be eating something that you didn't want, or more likely, nothing at all, while sitting next to someone you don't know. (Unless you prefer to eat only cupcakes sitting on the floor. That's fine, too.)

Please note any food allergies on the RSVP card as well.

This section will be updated more as decisions are made.

  • Can you bring a date?

I hear weddings are a really great place to meet people..... ;)

If you want to bring someone that wasn't addressed on the invitation, please get a hold of one of us ahead of time and make your case.

Please understand that this is an extremely personal day and we don't want to share it with just anyone. We have also only made allowances for a set number of people.

If I were you, I would mapquest.
Ceremony and Reception are both at the Columbus Athenaeum:

  • HOTELS

We blocked off 40 rooms at the Hyatt on Capitol Square for June 6 and 10 rooms for June 5. Reservations are $106 per night. Instructions from the hotel are below in italics. The rate is good through May 5.

The Hyatt on Capitol Square is right next the Ohio Theater and the old City Center Mall.

Please let me know if we run out of rooms. I can always add more up until May 5.

We picked this hotel because you can definitely walk to the Athenaeum from the Hyatt.

Parking at the hotel is all valet with in and out privileges for $26. There is a garage across the street that is $2.00 the first hour, then $1.00 every additional. This might be cheaper, depending on your timing. And/or maybe some of the Lima folks can carpool. =)

To park for free, you could drop off your stuff at the hotel, then park in the reserved lot on the corner of 5th and Long after 3pm. (This is the designated free parking on the invitation map.) The parking company advised that they are pretty lenient with overnight parking as long as cars are out by noon-ish the next day. If you do this, run it by the parking lot attendant to be safe (we'll have one for 4 hours Saturday night) and don't leave anything important in your car. The hangover walk to your car the next morning might not be super fun, but it's still walkable.

    To make a reservation
at the special negotiated group rate* of $106,
    please call 800-233-1234, and
request the Clevenger-Painter wedding rate. For online reservations, please use Group/Corporate #G-FCLP
    at www.hyattoncapitolsquare.com
Reservations should be made by May 5, 2009.

(It might not be a bad idea to see if their regular room rate is even cheaper than the block. Their rates fluctuate a lot and we are not obligated to pay for any unbooked rooms.)
